The Salus family has made it through another hectic Christmas holiday. But this time the party's really over. At year's end, Kathy and Larry Salus will close Rosario's Italian Foods, the Southwest Side shop her parents opened 61 years ago.
"It's been a very good life. We're very lucky," Kathy said, standing in front of the massive oven that was her father's "pride and joy." "At one time we cooked a thousand pounds of beef a week. Now, it's more like 500," she said. "Nobody comes to Rosario's for what's on our shelves. People come to us for what we make."
