Fencing Italy wins the gold medal in foil at the European Fencing Championships, underway in Antalya, Turkey. Daniele Garozzo, Tommaso Marini, Alessio Foconi and Guillaume Bianchi became European champions. The Azzurri led by head coach Stefano Cerioni reiterated the excellent results of the World Cup, which saw them triumph in three events and take third place in the fourth of the season.
The Azzurri first beat Turkey 45-14, then 45-33 Great Britain and 45-19 Spain. The final match against France, Olympic gold medalists at Tokyo 2020 albeit re-staffed for the continental event, also saw the Azzurri leading from the start until the 45-38 with which they closed the score.
