Nov 03, 2016 615

Dante Alighieri Society of MA - 41 Hampshire St., Cambridge. Sunday, November 6, 2016, 1:30 - 4:30 pm

In a relaxed fun setting, the experienced artist Pascal Gangi will guide kids of all ages, as well as adults, through the process of making puppets out of papier-mâché (French for "chewed paper"). No right or wrong! No previous art experience necessary. Each participant will go home with a masterpiece!

A graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical-Mechanical Engineering, Pascal Gangi came to the US as a young boy with his parents. For years, Gangi has been continuing the Carnevale tradition that comes from his hometown. Along with a group of friends and volunteers, he created the non-profit A Little Taste of Sicily.

The art group's mission is to bring the art tradition and techniques from Sciacca, Sicily to the Boston area through the construction of giant papier-mâché floats that showcase art works at local events and parades. Pascal's work has been featured on floats at the East Boston, Revere and North End Columbus Day parades, Wakefield 4th of July parade and the North End's Fisherman's Feast.

5:00 - 7:00 pm. Prove per Una Tragedia Siciliana "Rehearsal for a Sicilian Tragedy". Movie by Roman Pasca (2009). In Rehearsal for a Sicilian Tragedy, actor John Turturro takes audiences on a haunting, intimate journey to his maternal homeland of Sicily. There, while exploring the island's vanishing traditions, he is taken under the wing of one of the puppet theater's few remaining practitioners, Mimmo Cuticchio, who instructs him in the distinctively Sicilian art of puppetry.
