Gambero Rosso, an Italian media company that has covered the best food, wine and travel of Italy since 1986—and which publishes an authoritative Wines of Italy guide annually—announced various categories of wine winners for this year. Their designated Winery of the Year is Cantine Ferrari, which produces sparkling wines in the northern Italian Trentino province.
The winery uses the Méthode Champenoise method in which secondary fermentation, like that within the Champagne region of France, takes place in the bottle, rather than in a pressure and temperature controlled steel tank (such as those used to make Prosecco). Earlier this year I met Matteo Lunelli, the CEO of Cantine Ferrari.
