For Frette, 160 Years Is Hopefully a Drop in the Bucket

It’s a little-known fact that the hinterlands north of Milan host a rich textile culture. From Como’s famed silk producers to the colorful knits that spill from the Missoni factory in Varese, the uppermost stretches of Lombardy are home to a wealth of woven wonders. Leading the pack is Frette, the luxury linens brand founded in 1860 in Monza, just north of Milan, where it remains headquartered today.

In the century and a half since setting up shop, Frette has built itself up into the go-to linens brands for the high-end hospitality set—a holdover from when founders Jean Baptiste Edmond Frette, Alexandre Payre, and Charles Chaboud would knock on doors of luxury hotels to proselytize their wares.
