To regain the trust of Italian and foreign olive oil consumers with an action of the whole supply chain and the support of the institutions. This is the strategy for the revitalization of the Italian olive oil sector, expressed by ASSITOL (the Italian Association of the olive oil industry adhering to Confindustria) during a recent meeting in Rome.
The debate focused on the decline in consumption that has affected the olive oil sector in recent years. In Italy, according to the latest data provided by COI(International Olive Oil Council), there has been a drop of 14% in line with the trend of the European Union (-12%). Also ASSITOL data on exports, relating to the first eight months of 2017, show an overall slowdown in trade with foreign countries (-18.3%) compared to the same period of 2016.
