Tonight was all about celebrating heritage and college careers for one local organization. The Italian American Women's Association hosting their 19th year giving out scholarships to students. Dozens of students from local high schools apply every year. Then, it's up to the association to pick the top four winners who are then eligible for scholarships exceeding one hundred thousand dollars. To apply, the students must have Italian Heritage.
"As Italian, so many of our four fathers came here and they sacrificed a great deal for our families so that we could have the golden opportunity that comes with being an American Citizen... and just like these young ladies, we want to help them succeed with their academic careers," said Renee Hopkins, president of the Italian America Women's Association.
