The Italian Consulate General in Miami is looking for an Honorary Consul to lead the upcoming Honorary Consulate in Tallahassee, Florida. The role involves assisting Italian citizens and promoting Italy’s interests in the area.
Candidates must reside in Tallahassee and, preferably, be Italian citizens. They should be well-respected individuals with strong moral character and an excellent command of both Italian and English. This is a voluntary, honorary position—not salaried employment or a public-sector role.
While some government support may be available, the position is unpaid, and the Honorary Consul will be responsible for covering operational expenses.
Eligibility requirements include:
Age between 18 and 70
Legal residence in Tallahassee
Fluency in Italian and English
For Italian citizens: registration with AIRE (Registry of Italians Abroad)
No criminal convictions in Italy or the United States
Not serving as a member of Comites, a patronato leader, part of the governing body of a private Italian school, a government official, or an elected public representative
Application process:
Interested individuals should send a résumé, a copy of a valid Italian or U.S. passport, and a brief motivation letter by email to the Consulate General. The subject line should read: “Application for Honorary Consul in Tallahassee.” The deadline for applications is August 15, 2025.
This is not part of a formal competitive hiring process. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further steps. The appointment will require approval from Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the relevant U.S. authorities.
The new Honorary Consulate will serve as a key point of contact for the Italian community in Tallahassee, helping strengthen cultural and institutional ties between Italy and the region.
