The Timeless Cape
Few pieces of clothing are as timeless as the cape. It traced the footsteps of the medieval traveller, found its way to the wardrobes of the most elegant Venetian dames, draped the shoulders of the mysterious dandy, and of course, found new meaning in the hands of couturier Cristobal Balenciaga. With support from Altaroma, Maria Federica Bachiddu gave her interpretation of this evergreen piece, dazing spectators with her artisanal collection called Cappe d'Autore at Palazzo Cenci.
Distinctive Individuality
In a world ruled by an insatiable craving for individuality, Bachiddu made sure not to stifle the many declinations of personal taste. Reversible, transitional and unique designs floated down the runway, wrapped around a line up of models that couldn't have been more different from one another. The roman designer skillfully doubled masculine fabrics like herringbone and flannel with bold colorful Ikat silk prints, maximizing the transformation of a day to night outfit. From casual and cropped to long and elegant, the collection featured numerous reinterpretations of the cape for every woman, including one very special black number that opened the show. The first look, in fact, was generously donated to the Itaca Onlus project for mental health.
