Italian film festival celebrates 10th year, brings filmmakers to Charleston

When Giovanna De Luca moved to Charleston 12 years ago, she felt the city was missing something. Maybe others weren't aware of it, but De Luca certainly was. "With Spoleto, the connection with Italian culture was so strong at the time," she says. "And to not have cinema seemed so strange."

She took it upon herself to initiate the change, spearheading the Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival, which, since its humble beginnings, has blossomed into an internationally recognized event, attracting attendees from across the globe and bringing the best of Italian cinema to the Lowcountry.
