The green asparagus from Mesola, in the Po Delta, is one of the finest in the area. The land of sand with little humus on the surface and the climate have created the ideal environment for the spread of the asparagus in these territories.
For some years the Asparagus Festival of Mesola, in the ten days between April and May, with the official opening April 25, offers this product at 360° with exhibitions, guided tours on foot, by boat or bicycle on the territories of the asparagus, wine and food tasting of local products and recipes related to asparagus, such as risotto, omelettes and even fresh asparagus.
Besides, there will be thematic markets, flea market of flowers and gardening exhibition of agricultural machinery and, for the delight of children, panoramic train, hot air balloons and carnival.
The festival takes place both in the streets and squares of the village and within the premises of the Estense Castle, extending in the surrounding areas: it is possible, in fact, take daytime and nighttime walks with a guide to the natural reserve of the ancient Great Forest of Mesola, including oaks, elms, ash, poplars and pines and a rich and fragrant underbrush; boat trips on the Po in Goro.
In addition, to cheer the party are organized sporting competitions such as the "walk of Asparagus".
The festival offers the opportunity to visit the beautiful village of Mesola, nestled in an area rich and colorful between Ravenna and Venice, with the "il Po da 'lati e 'l mar a fronte e d'intorno le mura e dentro i boschi". (the Po river at its sides and the sea head-on and around the walls and into the woods).
