Italian food service continues to shine on the world stage – in 2024, the global value of Italian food service reached €251 billion, marking a 4.5% year-over-year increase. That accounts for nearly a fifth of all full-service restaurant revenue worldwide – a truly impressive share. The United States and China alone are responsible for more than 65% of worldwide consumption of Italian cuisine – they dominate the landscape.
On home soil, Italy itself remains robust. Domestic food service hit €83 billion in 2024 – a 2% rise that firmly pushes the sector past pre-pandemic levels. The industry is still fragmented, but chains are expanding fast – their market share climbed from 7% in 2019 to 10% today. The quick-service restaurant segment is leading the charge, delivering an average profitability of 13.3% between 2019 and 2024 – compared to a general average of 7.6%.
