Established in 2001, it is crossed by the Candigliano river, which creeps into the rocky cliffs of the Gola (gorge), creating a landscape of great charm.
The services offered by the Reserve include guided tours, birdwatching, educational activities, conferences, courses and internships. In Aqualagna, there is also the Museum of Natural History, which houses a geopaleontological and naturalistic collection and works of observation and monitoring of the nests of the Royal Eagle on the wall of Mount Paganuccio, which you can see live, thanks to a webcam.

The reserve has great natural richness, with regard to flora and fauna.
The vegetation consists mainly of oak trees with hornbeam (Ostrya carpinifolia), ornaments (Fraxinus ornus), maples and sorbs, together with the typical species of riparian and river environments, pastures and bushes.
In the Reserve we can find birds of prey such as the golden eagle, the small tree and the pilgrim; the golden owl, the lonely sparrow, the woodpecker, the mountain swallow, the eldest swallow and the coral chough. Among the mammals we can find the wild cat, the wolf, the porcupine, the polecat, and then roe deer, fallow deer, wild boars. Among the reptiles, the cervone and the common viper.
