EcoWay - the first Italian company active in the management and trading of CO2 certificates - presented the "Report emissions from 2013 to 2014" regarding the Italian companies submitted to the European mechanism of emission certificates ETS Emissions Trading Scheme: -6.3 % compared to the limits allowed for 2013.
Utility (11.7%), Construction (-10.94%) and Iron and Steel (-10.88%) are the areas with the major CO2 reductions compared to 2012. Puglia, Lombardy and Sicily are the regions with the highest CO2 emissions.
In Italy, the EU ETS is confirmed to be the tool that has enabled to reduce our emissions at the lowest cost for the businesses and the community. Over the past 10 years, the climate-altering emissions decreased either in relation to GDP and to the number of the population, thanks to the contribution of incentive policies for renewable energy and energy efficiency. In absolute terms, emissions also fall as a result of contraction in industrial production caused by the continuing economic crisis. In Europe, EU ETS seems to regain political consensus: the Europeans wish further structural reforms to increase efficiency and stability.
Worldwide market-based ETS systems for the management of policies to control climate change are spreading. China has launched in 2013 a pilot ETS project in the provinces with the highest levels of pollution, and has put the fight against climate change and the adoption of an ETS at the national level in the five-year plan 2016-2021.
EU-ETS is the first international market for the trading of emissions developed by the European Union with the aim of reducing emissions at the least cost for business and the community, produced and released into the atmosphere. The link to download the full report is www.ecoway.it
