Gianluca Petrella and Giovanni Guidi will make a rare American appearance in Chicago this month. The duo known as “Superstar” will take to the stage at Constellation on North Western Avenue on Sept. 16. Petrella, a trombonist, has played with artists ranging from American masters Joey Calderazzo and Pat Matheny to Italian titans Fabio Accardi and Enrico Rava. He was voted a Best Emerging Artist by Downbeat magazine in 2007. Playing in an avant-garde style, he is best known for his work with the group Cosmic Renaissance.
