Gianluca Petrella and Giovanni Guidi will make a rare American appearance in Chicago this month. The duo known as “Superstar” will take to the stage at Constellation on North Western Avenue on Sept. 16. Sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago, the concert will offer jazz aficionados the opportunity to enjoy these young Italian talents live. (www.constellation-chicago.com)
Petrella, a trombonist, has played with artists ranging from American masters Joey Calderazzo and Pat Matheny to Italian titans Fabio Accardi and Enrico Rava. He was voted a Best Emerging Artist by Downbeat magazine in 2007. Playing in an avant-garde style, he is best known for his work with the group Cosmic Renaissance.
