A new Italian restaurant will open tomorrow in downtown Grand Rapids. Mazzo Cucina D’Italia is a contemporary Italian restaurant that has moved into the previous home of Tre Cugini, at 122 Monroe Center St. NW, which closed in December after 15 years.
Faro Uccello owns Mazzo, which operates under Uccello’s Hospitality Group. Mazzo offers handmade pastas, wood-fired pizzas and seafood — with a focus on crudo, meaning raw in Italian, including a raw bar with fresh oysters. The remodeled interior features two double-sided fireplaces, a floor-to-ceiling wine case and interior furnishings with “sleek design lines juxtaposed against” exposed brick walls and raw wood tables.
