Joint training programs and technology exchange in counterterrorism—especially at the Innovation Center in Alabama—are among the key outcomes of Italian Police Chief Vittorio Pisani’s recent visit to the United States. The trip also laid the groundwork for enhanced cooperation on cyber security and other cross-border threats.

One highlight of the agreement includes a series of high-level training sessions in Rome for American officers assigned to protective security duties in Europe, particularly in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina. These sessions will take place at the NOCS police training school in Spinaceto, just outside the Italian capital.

During his official visit to Washington, Pisani held meetings with several top U.S. law enforcement officials: FBI Director Kash Patel, DEA Director Terry Cole and Principal Deputy Administrator George Papadopoulos, Homeland Security Investigations’ Derek Gordon, U.S. Secret Service representative Sean Currant, and Diplomatic Security Service official Thad Osterhout.

One key area of collaboration with the DEA involves future joint efforts to investigate Mexican cartels trafficking fentanyl, as well as coordinated operations in the Triple Frontier region—where Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay meet—a major hub for drug routes into Europe.

The visit resulted in plans to strengthen international cooperation on security and transnational crime through shared operational practices, joint technology development, and advanced training programs. Both countries are focused on tackling evolving threats together, with an emphasis on innovation and capacity-building for frontline personnel.

This renewed partnership underscores the strategic importance of transatlantic collaboration in facing today’s complex security landscape, from narco-trafficking and terrorism to cybercrime.
