Men's Italy follows the example of its female colleagues of fifteen days ago and conquers the European title: it is the n. 7 in 11 finals. The umpteenth triumph of Italian sports in a magical summer that is now engraved in our history. Italy beat Slovenia 3-2 with great effort and climbed onto the highest step of an international podium after the bitter Olympic disappointment in Tokyo, eliminated in the quarters by Argentina.

Italy had not reached the final of a European Championship since 2013 and had not won it since 2005. We are the youngest team in the tournament (24 years old on average and 9 rookies in this competition) and so we have a long and satisfying future ahead of us. Which after the Games we put in the hands of our new coach Ferdinando De Giorgi. Honor also goes to Slovenia, the small Eastern European country that won a silver medal in volleyball two years ago and is now coached by Italian Alberto Giuliani.
