The Italian Parliament is approving a law promoting sports in schools and establishing the New Youth Games (Giochi della Gioventù), renewing the national sports event for students aged 7 to 17, which was created in 1968, suspended in 1996, then reinstated in 2007, and finally closed in 2017.
The goal is to promote sports education as a tool for cognitive learning, personal development, relationship-building, and socialization, making it an integral part of the school curriculum starting from primary school. The aim is to ensure that students have access to all sports disciplines, based on their individual aptitudes and preferences, while highlighting physical education and sports practice as essential values for inclusion, equal opportunities, and the expression of youth identity.
