Italy has released its annual figures on glass collection and recycling, offering a snapshot of the sector’s current state and highlighting key advancements in innovation—particularly the integration of artificial intelligence in glass processing and ongoing efforts to decarbonize furnace operations in glass factories.
The country continues to improve its performance in glass recovery and recycling. In 2024, the amount of recycled glass packaging waste increased by 2.8%, rising from 2,045,768 metric tons in 2023 to 2,102,979 metric tons. This brings Italy’s national recycling rate to 80.3%, a return to 2022 levels and well ahead of the European Union’s 2030 target of 75%.
