Italy’s women’s national volleyball team, led by coach Julio Velasco, won the 2025 Volleyball Nations League title by defeating Brazil 3–1 in the final held in Łódź, Poland. After dropping the first set 22–25, the Azzurre bounced back to win the next three sets 25–18, 25–22, 25–22, showcasing their resilience and depth.
This victory marks Italy’s third Nations League title in four years and extends their winning streak in official matches to 29. With this result, Italy equals the United States for the most VNL titles and confirms its position as one of the dominant forces in international women’s volleyball.
The match was a true team effort. Despite an injury to Alice Degradi, Italy remained composed. Ylenia Nervini stepped in and played a solid game, while Anna Danesi added crucial blocks. Alessia Antropova entered midway through the third set and led the team in scoring with 18 points. Captain Miriam Sylla contributed 16 points and played a vital leadership role, while Paola Egonu added 12 before being substituted.
Italy’s ability to adapt and win without relying solely on its star players was a testament to Velasco’s work and the squad’s overall talent. The final was physically intense, but Italy’s bench proved decisive, bringing energy and determination when it mattered most.
This latest win follows Italy’s Olympic gold medal in Paris, capping a historic period for the team. With a deep roster, experienced leadership, and a confident approach, Italy has not only collected another major title but also reinforced its status as the top women’s volleyball team in the world.
