John Sirica: Italian of the Week

Prior to 1973, few people outside of our nation's capital knew the name John Sirica. He was born on March 19, 1904, to two Italian immigrants. When he was 14, his family moved to Washington, D.C. In the 1920s and 30s John started boxing and debated whether or not he wanted to become a professional fighter.

He decided against it and received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. John started a private practice soon thereafter. In 1957, President Eisenhower appointed him to the Federal bench. Nearly 15 years later, John became a Chief Justice.
