For those who thought Sbarro and the mall were inseparable, think again. After operating in Coastland Center for at least 20 years, the quick-service pizzeria chain vanished in late January from the Naples mall. A temporary renovation wall covering Sbarro’s former food court space announces the April opening of Villa Italian Kitchen.
Sbarro’s lease was not renewed, and Villa’s lease kicked in the next day, said Glen Harrell, senior general manager of Coastland Center. Ironically, Villa is another national pizzeria chain with a menu practically identical to Sbarro’s. Both concepts were started in New York City more than 50 years ago by separate families that immigrated from Naples, Italy.
