The annual La Festa Italiana street fair returned to the neighborhood surrounding Holy Rosary Church last night, as music, games and Italian food kicked off the five-day extravaganza. The festival will continue throughout the week – running from 5 to 11 p.m. today and Friday, and 3 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The festival began in 1902 in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Rocco, and is being held at Holy Rosary Church at 366 Sixth St., between Brunswick and Monmouth streets in Downtown Jersey City. Founded in 1885, the Holy Rosary Church is the oldest Italian Roman Catholic Parish in New Jersey. During the festival, the church will be open to parishioners and guests who would like to see the Church up close.
