Hidden by jacaranda trees and bright yellow umbrellas, the new Citizen Public Market quietly opened in Culver City, Los Angeles, yesterday. Inside the historic 8,000 square foot art-deco building from 1929, several shops began serving customers. Open from 8 am to 10 pm, the market offers outdoor seating on a rooftop deck and a back patio.
One of the most anticipated restaurants in the space is led by Chef Nancy Silverton. Her new pizzeria serves satisfyingly petit pies, hence the name, “Pizzette.” “I wanted to create something that people could take back to their office, and I thought of the idea “pizzette,” because it’s smaller and easier to take back to your desk,” she said on opening day.
