OCTOBER 06, 2015 - 06:00 PM - Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò - 24 West 12th Street - New York, NY 10011
In collaboration with the Bogliasco Foundation. A lecture by 1996/2000 Bogliasco Foundation Fellow, James McBride. Celebrated author of The Color of Water, journalist and award-winning composer
In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Italy, James McBride will discuss his seminal first novel, Miracle at St. Anna, which was inspired by the true story of Buffalo Soldiers stationed in the small Italian village of St. Anna of Stazzema towards the end of WWII. Considering both the experience of writing his book and the historical context in which it is set, McBride will discuss Italy's response to African-American soldiers, the Italian fascist/partisan question and recent updates regarding the little-known tragedy that took place in St. Anna. In ENGLISH.
