Little Italy's famous shaved ice spot is back in business. Mario's Italian Lemonade, 1068 W. Taylor St., opened for the season Friday. The stand has been a mainstay in the neighborhood since 1954, when Mario DiPaolo Jr. helped his parents open the family shop.
Today, DiPaolo Jr. continues to operate the lemonade stand with his three adult children. Mario's Italian Lemonade opens for the season every May and closes in September. Last year, the DiPaolo family added to their Taylor Street empire when Mario's son opened his own store on the block.
