The Memo-AmIt Project Seeks Italian Americans to Interview

Aug 08, 2025 164

The Memo-AmIt Project aims to explore the legacy of the Second World War in the memory of Italian Americans born approximately between 1965 and 1985 to investigate, through oral history, the relationship between America and Italy since 1945.

WWII deeply influenced the lives of many Italian American families, and its legacy has contributed to shaping their relationship with Italy and America through the generations in terms of identity, language, and cultural heritage.

Interviews will be preserved at the University of Genoa in Italy and made accessible for reference and research. Each interview unfolds as an informal conversation, in English or Italian, and takes an average of 60 minutes; interviews are collected via video conference on Zoom.

The Memo-AmIt Project was founded in May 2025 by Italian scholars Gianluca Cinelli and Patrizia Piredda, under the framework of the MemoGen Project and with the support of the Ragusa Foundation for the Humanities New York. The MemoGen Project investigates how WWII continues to affect the mentality, habits, and cultural orientation of Italians today. For inquiries and to join the project as interviewees, please feel free to contact Gianluca at giancin77@yahoo.it and Patrizia at patrizia.piredda@oxfordalumni.org.
