This year would have marked the 117th anniversary of the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society, the age-old festa Italiano in Rosebank founded by a group of Italian immigrant laborers in 1903 that served as a tribute to Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the celebration — dubbed one of Staten Island’s best kept secrets — has been cancelled. In fact, the cancellation marks only the second time in its storied history, with the first occurring during World War II when most of its members were serving in the military.
