It was a celebrazione -- Italian for celebration -- of the culture, history and heritage of Italy during the Columbus Day Parade on Main Street in downtown Mount Clemens on Saturday. The 46-unit procession included a variety of social clubs, businesses, pageant queens, and the Harper Woods High School Marching Band paying tribute to the accomplishments and contributions of Italian Americans. This was the second year the decades-old celebration was held in Mount Clemens.
"We are very much supported by the city here," said parade director Mark Garagiola of West Bloomfield. "The mayor helps us out, the businesses sponsor our stage and our floats. We feel very much at home here."
