Who doesn't love a big bowl of comfy carbs on a cold winter's day?
One of the New Year's Day food superstitions is about eating long strands of pasta without breaking the strand; which will provide you longevity in the New Year. National Spaghetti Day seems like a fine day to pay homage to this tasty tall tale.
Spaghetti, which technically means thin string or twine in Italian, dates backs to ancient times. Arab cultures are said to have sold dry spaghetti style noodles in open markets as far back as the early 1200's. The Chinese actually have the longest historical document; which includes uses of pasta dating all the way back to 5,000 B.C. This is long before Italy became the home of pasta capital of the world; furthermore it is also a few millennium before Americans created National Spaghetti Day.
