A new Italian-American indie flick hits close to home. The stereotype-skewering "Friends and Romans" — now playing a limited run this week at UA Stadium 16 in Mariners Harbor — was filmed on Staten Island. Screenwriter Gregg Greenburg says iconic borough locations such asAriemma's Deli and Goodfellas pizzeria are featured.
The plot: A group of lifelong "mob movie" extras mount a production of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" in an S.I. community theater — so they can finally get some speaking roles. The glitch: Their theater is the secret hideout of a real-life gangster who fancies himself an thespian.
