The New Jersey Italian Heritage Commission (NJIHC) proudly announces the launch of its new “Italian Women” Lesson Series, an educational program designed to honor and explore the extraordinary contributions of Italian women throughout history, culture, science, and the arts.

As part of NJIHC’s mission to preserve and promote the rich heritage of Italian Americans, this innovative lesson series highlights influential women who have shaped society and made lasting impacts in Italy, the United States, and beyond. From pioneering scientists and celebrated artists to activists and leaders, these lessons provide educators and students with deeper understanding of the vital role Italian women have played in shaping our world. 

“This lesson series represents an important step in expanding cultural awareness and promoting diversity in education,” said Commissioner and Curriculum Chairwoman Dr. Gilda Rorro. “By showcasing the accomplishments of Italian women, we inspire future generations to appreciate the significance of their heritage, and the contributions women continue to make in all fields.”

The Italian Women Lesson Series includes:

• Biographical profiles of trailblazing Italian women
• Interactive classroom activities aligned with NJ State Learning Standards
• Multimedia and video resources to enhance learning and engagement

This series is part of the Commission’s broader educational initiatives, which currently offer comprehensive curricula approved by the New Jersey Department of Education, including lessons on Italian and Italian American history, language, and cultural contributions. These resources are free and available to educators, schools, and the public statewide.
