New Orleans Piazza D’Italia to get $280.000 makeover

That little slice of Italy depicted in a downtown New Orleans plaza is getting makeover.

The Piazza D'Italia opened in 1978 and was designed to highlight the contributions of the Italian-American community in New Orleans.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said the city is set to spend $280.000 into the plaza for a major renovation project. Improvements to the plaza put together by the local Torre Design Consortium will include more "Italian-style" landscaping, and development of ADA compliant restrooms with a HVAC system. In noting its importance to the local Italian-American community, Mayor Mitch Landrieu pointed out that he has Italian heritage on his mother's side.
