A weekend of warm connections and regional pride brought together New York’s Emilia Romagna community as they welcomed a delegation from the Regional Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna, visiting the Big Apple to take part in the Summer Fancy Food Show—North America’s premier event for the food and beverage industry.

The gathering, hosted by the New York Comites (Committee of Italians Abroad), took place at the guesthouse of Old Saint Patrick’s Church. Representing the Assembly was Vice President Barbara Lori, who emphasized the region’s commitment to its global diaspora: “In 2015, we revitalized the Council of Emilia-Romagna Residents Abroad, and with this legislature, we've continued to invest in it.

We truly believe in the shared identity we have with our communities around the world. Many young people come to New York to study and build their future, and this highlights not only the enduring connection with our region, but also the strong ties they keep with their roots.”

Lori also pointed to the strategic importance of the U.S. for Emilia-Romagna’s economy—especially the agrifood sector—and the growing opportunities for universities to expand international partnerships across the Atlantic.

Also in attendance was Assemblyman Matteo Daffadà, who chairs the Council of Emilia-Romagna Residents Abroad. “It’s a great honor to be here and meet our global Emilia-Romagna family—from the long-standing associations of the Parma and Piacenza Apennines to our new cultural ambassadors representing every corner of our region,” Daffadà said. “The challenge now is to breathe new life into our community networks, recognizing the contributions of those who’ve been involved for years, while also embracing newcomers—especially the younger generation—who are seeking out what opportunities our region can offer them.”

Daffadà highlighted the region’s forward-thinking approach: “Emilia-Romagna has made a deliberate choice not to leave these connections up to chance or the isolated efforts of individuals. Through the Council, these relationships have been given formal recognition and a clear political framework. Our connection to Emilia-Romagna residents around the world is an essential part of our international presence.”

Joining the community gathering were also the President of the Regional Government, Michele de Pascale, who led the delegation, and Regional Agriculture Minister Alessio Mammi.
