The Diocese of Worcester said Friday it plans to make $120,000 in planned repairs to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, after the city Historical Commission declined Thursday to waive the city's yearlong demolition delay bylaw.
But parishioners — many of whom are trying to raise money to help the 88-year-old Italian-American Catholic Church avoid the wrecking ball — won't see its inside anytime soon, as the diocese said the planned repairs will only shore up the building's façade.
