More than 1,000 spectators are expected to attend the 34th Annual Nutley-Belleville Columbus Day Parade on Sunday. This year's parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Belleville's Passaic Avenue, traveling down Franklin Avenue, and ending at the Nutley Park Oval. The Parade Committee, made of about 12 members, has worked on preparation since the end of last year's parade.

"You work right through the summer - on the ad journal dinner, preparation," Parade Chair Edie Liguori said. "The more we could raise, the more enhanced the parade will be." Bill Freda, of Belleville is the parade co-chair, and Father Tom Nicastro is chair of the Nutley-Belleville Columbus Day Parade and Italian Heritage Committee. This year, the parade will include nearly 100 participants, which is an increase from 70 last year. In addition, according to ad book coordinator Susan LaMorte, there will be a red carpet and reviewing stand. A flag-raising is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Belleville's Town Hall and 11 a.m. at Nutley's Town Hall.
