On June 1, 2021, UNICO District X Governor Anthony Bengivenga met with Mayor Gianluca Sala at the municipal center in Terno D'Isola, Bergamo Italy to reaffirm their sister city pact which was initiated in 2009 with South Plainfield, NJ and the Plainfields' Chapter of UNICO National.

Anthony was told that he was the first American to enter Bergamo area since the beginning of the pandemic. Before the pandemic Anthony had established an annual cultural student exchange between South Plainfield High School and the Ambiveri Scuola Superiore of Bergamo. With the pandemic easing there are hopes to continue student exchange program in the spring of 2022.
