Guinness World Record Cassata in Castellammare del Golfo. At 270 kilograms, the imposing cake, made a few days ago by skilled master pastry chefs on the occasion of the feast of the patron saint Maria Santissima del Soccorso, left everyone speechless.
In just under an hour after it was cut, having delighted the palates of 1,300 people, including tourists, onlookers and citizens of Castellammare, the cassata was already finished. A resounding success! It took no less than 14 sponge cakes, 130 kg of fresh ricotta, 70 kg of candied fruit and 10 kg of almond paste to make this delicacy. Mind-boggling numbers to create a treat for the palate and a true visual masterpiece.
The proceeds of the initiative, thanks to the free offerings left by citizens, will, in fact, be used to restore the roof of the Mother Church of Castellammare, a building of great artistic and architectural value, which holds the effigy of the patron saint Mary Most Holy of Relief and to which the entire Castellammare community is very attached.
