A local restaurant company has opened a sports bar downtown. Uccello’s Hospitality Group said this week it opened Uccello’s Ristorante & Sports Bar at 122 Monroe Center St. NW in Grand Rapids. On April 9, Uccello’s announced it was closing its high-end Italian restaurant in the space, Mazzo Cucina D’Italia, and converting the location into a sports bar.
Mazzo Cucina D’Italia was open about a year. Uccello’s converted the restaurant into a sports bar during April and May and held interviews for a number of positions. The Grand Rapids-based restaurant company has five other Uccello’s locations in West Michigan and owns Herb & Fire Pizzeria, a fast-casual pizza place with locations in Grand Rapids and Grandville.
