Stirling City lumber pioneer Harry Merlo dies at 91

The legacy left by Stirling City native Harry Angelo Merlo stretches far, but the origins of the late lumber tycoon, who died Oct. 24 in Portland, Oregon, are undoubtedly rooted on the ridge.

Merlo was a son of Italian immigrants and during the early part of his 91 years of life, he served as a captain in the Marine Corps and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in business administration. He was most well known for his position as founding CEO of the Louisiana-Pacific timber company from 1973 to 1995.
