Many Southwest Floridians refer to the pastries at the new Dolce Gusto Italian Market in south Fort Myers as "New York style," but to owner Vince Cangialosi they're the style he grew up eating at his family's cafes in Sicily — scratch-made cream puffs, decadent tarts, sfogliatella with their wavy, crunchy-crisp layers — and he is giddy about them.
Vince partnered with Francisco "Tiger" Valentin to open Dolce Gusto Sept. 7 in the Cypress Lake Drive space that formerly housed A Touch of Italy Market behind Mastello Italian Ristorante. The new market appears similar to its predecessor at first, with aisles of house-made pastas and imported Italian goods — but then the tall pastry cases with their rows of stunning desserts come into view, attracting customers like a magnet.
