Growing Up With Italian Music. A Program with Film by John Orlando
This presentation is a story of a time gone by; a time of remembering how we listened to Italian music at Nonna's house with our families on Sundays and how our fathers and mothers played it regularly at home.
Music was as much a part of the Italian family as pasta, sauce and meatballs on a Sunday. The film is about how Italian music influenced the lives of Italians and their children. As John recounts his best memories, he reveals how Italian music was the common thread that wove all Italian Americans together into a magnificent tapestry of values and pride. It was the music and singing from the great Caruso to the popular Connie Francis, Dean Martin, Jimmy Roselli and many others that forged Italian families together for close to a hundred years.
Listen, Learn & Enjoy!
Listening together during this film will cause nostalgia along with wonderful memories. Sadly, it is music and a time that is fading away, as Italian and Italian-American traditions fade away; yet it will always remain a part of the Italian-American experience. To Italians, life without music is like a forest without trees. Although the memories fade, whenever these songs are heard they still have a positive effect. We can be proud to say: "This music is ours!"
