Central Italy is once again in a state of emergency. The cold front that has buried it in snow wasn't bad enough. Yesterday, a series of quakes once again struck the area of Abruzzo, Marche, Lazio and Umbria. Over a few hours, between 10:25 am and 2:33 pm, four earthquakes of a magnitude of 5 to 5.5 hit.
The epicenters were the towns of Montereale, Capitignano, Amatrice, Campotosto, Barete and Pizzoli but the quakes were felt in big cities as well, including Rome. In Italy's capital, schools and museums were evacuated and the subway was closed. As of yesterday evening, there was only one fatality, an 83-year-old man buried when his barn collapsed.
