For the third time in a row, the Speaker of the House has Italian roots

After Nancy Pelosi and Kevin McCarthy, newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also has Italian blood. It was he himself who declared this in 2020 during an interview with politico.com.

“While I am stuck with one of the most common names in America, my lineage has a lot more flair. My maternal grandfather, for example, was a Sicilian immigrant with the glorious name of Nunzio Messina. I take great pride in that rich Italian heritage, and in the Irish/French ancestry on my dad’s side of the family.”
