Thanks to the geolocated online map created by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forests (Masaf), freely accessible from both computers and smartphones, it is now possible to locate all officially registered monumental trees in Italy. Updated regularly, the list currently includes 4,749 specimens belonging to 252 species, with the most represented being the downy oak and the beech.
The catalog, easy to browse, also provides directions to reach each of these "green giants," allowing botanists to plan specific itineraries and travelers to add a special stop to their journeys. Here’s a hypothetical route that follows some of the most iconic botanical colossi.
