Ever thought of having the sweetest job in the world? This fall, a major international competition is offering exactly that, the chance to become an official tiramisu taster. One hundred people will be selected to sit on the judging panel and help choose the very best version of Italy’s most beloved dessert.

The event will take place in Treviso, the town often celebrated as the birthplace of tiramisu. From October 10 to 12, the city will welcome pastry lovers from around the globe, each presenting their own version of the famous treat. For the chosen judges, it means three days of tasting, comparing, and ultimately deciding who deserves the crown.

Applications open in mid-September and require more than just a sweet tooth. Prospective tasters will need to answer a short quiz on the history and preparation of tiramisu, along with questions on food culture and safe tasting practices. Organizers are looking for people who show genuine passion for traditional cuisine and an open, curious palate.

Once selected, judges will evaluate entries based on four main criteria: quality of ingredients, balance of flavors, texture, and presentation. The classic tiramisu recipe is made with coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone, eggs, sugar, and cocoa - but competitors will also be judged on their ability to innovate while respecting tradition. A good tiramisu should be creamy yet structured, rich but not heavy, and always pleasing to the eye.

Serving as a judge isn’t just about indulging in spoonful after spoonful of dessert. It’s about celebrating cultural heritage, supporting culinary creativity, and honoring a dish that has become a worldwide symbol of Italian hospitality. For those lucky enough to be selected, it promises to be an unforgettable experience - and perhaps the sweetest responsibility they’ll ever have.
