Salento, often referred to as the “heel” of Italy’s boot, is a stunning sub-region in the southern part of Puglia (Apulia), located at the southeastern tip of the Italian peninsula. It includes the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi, and Taranto, and is renowned for its breathtaking coastline, rich cultural heritage, and significant contributions to Italy’s agricultural and food industries.
Geographically, Salento is bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Ionian Sea to the west, providing it with a unique and strategic maritime position. The landscape is predominantly flat, interspersed with rolling hills, making it ideal for extensive agricultural activities. The region enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. These conditions create an optimal environment for olive cultivation, which thrives in the region’s fertile soil.
