He was the voice of the "Motor City Motorsports" radio show for more than 20 years. He walked the beat as a Detroit cop for close to 35. Vito LoPiccolo, a World War II veteran, was so proud of his Italian-American heritage that he requested that his funeral luncheon be held at the Italian American Cultural Center on Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township.
LoPiccolo will get his wish, said his daughter, Janice Thimlar. LoPiccolo, a longtime member of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, died today of complications from congestive heart failure at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township. He was 90 and had been in poor health for several years, said Thimlar, who produced his racing show that aired for two decades on several local stations, including WLQV-AM (1500).
