Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish is celebrating 70 years of Catholic education in Ellwood City. An anniversary party Saturday at the Sons of Italy on Lawrence Avenue will offer the area's many alumni a chance to reminisce, share memorabilia and look ahead. There's much to reflect upon.
The roots of Catholic education began in the 1800s as immigrants from different parts of Europe arrived in Ellwood City looking to make better lives for their families. The railroad tracks that ran through Ellwood City divided Italian immigrants from German, Polish and Irish immigrants.
